1952 Topps Mickey Mantle - $12,600,000
The most expensive sports card of all time is a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, which sold for $12,600,000 in 2022. Graded SGC 9.5 and described as the “finest known example” of the card, it pairs the most storied post-war baseball issue with a condition almost nobody else can match.
T206 Honus Wagner - the $7.25m icon
Before the Mantle, the record belonged to the T206 Honus Wagner, at $7.25 million - and no card is more famous. Wagner objected to his image being used to promote tobacco, so production was cut short; fewer than 50 authentic copies are believed to exist. It was also the first card ever to sell for $1 million, back in 2000, effectively opening the era of the trophy card.
2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite LeBron James RPA - $5.2m
The modern era’s flagship is a LeBron James Rookie Patch Autograph from 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection, which sold for $5.2 million.
