Million-Dollar Week: REA's Topps Brick and Twin CGC Pokémon Sales Headline Autumn Trading

A sealed 1952 Topps brick, two seven-figure Pokémon cards and a Jordan rookie in gem condition made for one of the more eye-catching weeks of reported sales in recent memory.

Theory Cards - this week's record card sales

The week ending 7 September 2026 was dominated by seven-figure results, with Robert Edward Auctions reporting the sale of a sealed 1952 Topps unopened “brick” for £813,000 ($1.1 Million) at its Summer Auction on 17 August 2026, the top result of the sale according to the auction house. Two further million-dollar figures came from CGC, which documented a pair of private sales of graded Pokémon cards each realising more than £739,000 ($1 Million). A fourth sale, a PSA-graded Michael Jordan rookie card, rounded out the week at a more modest, if still substantial, figure.

1952 Topps Unopened “Brick”, £813,000 ($1.1 Million)

Robert Edward Auctions reported that a sealed 1952 Topps unopened brick sold for £813,000 ($1.1 Million) at its Summer Auction on 17 August 2026, describing it as the lead result in what the house called a “record-setting” sale. Unopened material from the 1952 Topps set has long carried a premium given the scarcity of untouched product from the era, and REA’s figure is the highest reported this week across the sales tracked.

Another CGC-certified ‘Ivy’ Pikachu, £739,000 ($1 Million)

CGC reported on 2 September 2026 that a CGC-certified ‘Ivy’ Pikachu card had sold in a private sale for £739,000 ($1 Million). The grading company noted this as another instance of an ‘Ivy’ Pikachu clearing the million-dollar mark, continuing a pattern of headline-grabbing results for this particular variant that CGC has documented previously.

CGC-certified Rayquaza Gold Star, £739,000 ($1 Million)

In a separate report issued the same day, CGC confirmed that a CGC-certified Rayquaza Gold Star card had also realised more than £739,000 ($1 Million) in a private sale. CGC framed this as part of a broader run of record results for graded cards passing through its certification process, again without disclosing buyer or further transaction detail.

SCP Auctions reported the sale of a 1986 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan card, graded PSA GEM MINT 10, for £266,000 ($360,000), with the result recorded on 26 July 2026. The Fleer #57 issue is widely regarded as Jordan’s primary rookie card, and a PSA 10 example remains one of the more sought-after grades in the hobby, though this week’s figure sits well below the seven-figure sums reported elsewhere.

What it tells us

Four sales, four separate reporting sources, and three of them clearing the million-dollar threshold, this is a notably concentrated week at the top end of the market. REA’s brick result reaffirms that sealed, untouched material from foundational sets continues to command outsized figures at public auction, while CGC’s back-to-back disclosures of private Pokémon sales suggest that demand for the rarest graded examples of that category shows no sign of cooling, even outside the auction-room spotlight.

It’s worth noting that the two CGC-reported figures came from private sales rather than public auctions, and neither report specifies whether the amounts include any additional costs. The SCP-reported Jordan sale, by contrast, sits in more familiar territory for a PSA 10 example of that card, a reminder that even amid a week of headline-grabbing million-dollar results, the broader market continues to trade across a wide range of price points depending on category, condition and rarity.

Sterling converted from the reported figures at £1 = $1.35 (ECB reference rate, 2026-09-04) and rounded. Figures are as reported by the selling house or grader.
